Downtown Lake Worth Avenues Create an Outdoor Gallery Displaying Students’ Art Work
The 10th Annual Christmas Banner Project transforms Lake and Lucerne Avenues in downtown Lake Worth into an outdoor gallery this holiday season, where colorful holiday banners created by Lake Worth High School art students will be prominently displayed on lamp posts flanking the avenues. We invite you to show your support for these young artists by coming to Lake Worth this holiday season and strolling the avenues to enjoy these original works of art.
Under the direction of Lake Worth art teacher Sharon Crocilla, and funded by proceeds from the Street Painting Festival, the 10th annual “Christmas Where the Tropics Begin” banner project features original works of her students. Ms. Crocilla has incorporated the Holiday Banner Project as part of her curriculum. The students do all of the designs and work themselves. Each student submits a preliminary drawing and an advisory board of the Street Painting Festival committee juries the submitted designs that the students then turn into banners.
The banner project fosters creativity, instills pride in the students and offers a public venue in which to exhibit their works of art where the entire community can enjoy their talents.
In an effort to fulfill its mission of creating art in public places, this project
is underwritten by Street Painting Festival, Inc., a non-profit organization
made up of a volunteer committee working in partnership with the Greater
Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lake Worth.

A
Special Gift to the Community
The Street Painting Festival, in collaboration with local
artist/ sculptor Claudia Jane Klein, commissioned an outdoor
sculpture as a gift to the City of Lake Worth. Street Painting
Festival Committee members unanimously selected the mermaid
design from four options the artist proposed for consideration.
The sculpture has taken the artist more than a year to complete.
Part
of the mission of the Street Painting Festival is to give back
to the community by way of community projects associated with
the arts. The Festival Committee has worked towards The Sculpture
Project for a number of years and is proud to announce its completion.

Mermaid
2000 was unveiled on January 16, 2002, amid much pomp and
celebration and was attended by city and county officials,
sponsors of the Festival, and many friends and family members.
A reception followed at the Mango Inn Bed & Breakfast
in Lake Worth. The sculpture will make its home at "Fountain
Park Triangle" (at Bryant Park), the semi-circular walkway/park
facing north towards the golf course at the foot of the Lake
Worth Bridge and will remain there for all to enjoy. She enjoys
pedestrian admirers'. Please take time to go visit her!
