PRESS RELEASE: LAKE WORTH BEACH ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR STREET PAINTING FESTIVAL

September 13, 2021

LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL -- The City of Lake Worth Beach and the Lake Worth Street Painting Festival Inc are excited to announce plans for the future of the festival. After the 2021 event was canceled due to COVID-19, the Street Painting Festival Inc organizing team took the time to restructure the event for the future.

Starting with the 2022 festival the City of Lake Worth Beach will take full ownership of the event and the award-winning Special Events team will help to adapt the event to the "new normal". City staff are continuing to move forward with plans for a 2022 festival but are prepared to alter or cancel the event based on the CDC COVID-19 guidance closer to the time.

"The original mission of the Street Painting Festival Inc has been successfully achieved over the past three decades, uniting the community in a hands-on, free cultural event. It has inspired a generation of youth, bringing art to life for tens of thousands of visitors each year, showcasing the City of Lake Worth Beach and Palm Beach County in a unique and positive light,”.

- Maryanne Webber, Artist Coordinator, Director and one of the founding members of the festival

The Festival team is sad to be stepping down, but believes the time has come to pass the torch, so the festival may continue for future generations.

In ongoing fulfillment of the Festival's mission, remaining funds in the Street Painting Festival Inc non-profit have been allocated for scholarships for graduating Palm Beach County High School students and for the maintenance of existing projects associated with the arts.

The Lake Worth Street Painting Festival Legacy Scholarship has been established for Lake Worth High School through Dollars for Scholars, to be awarded each year in perpetuity to eligible Lake Worth High School graduating students.

2022 Scholarship Awards have been established for graduating Lake Worth High School Air Force Junior ROTC Cadets and for the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation for the Connie Rudy Painting Scholarship Award.

The City is grateful to the entire Street Painting Festival Inc. team, especially Maryanne Webber and Nadine Burns, for their exceptional commitment which has made Lake Worth Beach home to the now world-renowned event. Their efforts and vision will serve as a sustaining inspiration as the event continues.

“Let me begin by thanking Maryanne Webber for her vision and her many years of hard work and dedication in creating this amazing legacy event. Myself, the Commission and our dedicated staff face the challenge of continuing the festival with enthusiasm. The festival has brought our residents together every year, either as volunteers, artists, or wanderers through the crowd, enjoying the art, music, food and downtown charm. Out of town visitors have become our neighbors after seeing all that Lake Worth Beach has to offer. Looking forward to the teamwork that defines us as proud Lake Worth Beach neighbors.”

- Lake Worth Beach Mayor, Betty Resch.

Maryanne Webber added, "The Street Painting Festival has been one of my life's greatest achievements. It has been my privilege to have worked with so many dedicated artists, individuals, volunteers, businesses and organizations and in partnership with the City of Lake Worth Beach. These past 28 years have been a celebration of the Street Painting Festival's mission and we hope that our past accomplishments will be our legacy and inspire a new iteration for a "Lake Worth Beach" street painting event.

Plans are currently underway for a 2022 Lake Worth Beach Street Painting Festival event. Further information will be released as we get closer to the festival dates.

Located in central Palm Beach County, Lake Worth Beach is a dynamic, multi-cultural city with an individualistic style. People are drawn to the City by its acceptance of different cultures and lifestyles, historic districts, hip downtown and colorful arts district.
